Thank you. We tend to forget it, but installing and updating older macOS was incredibly unreliable. As for efficiency, it depends how you measure it. One thing that has changed greatly is that third-party apps are now more constrained, and tend to keep many components within the app that previously got written to a folder in Application Support or similar.

That makes it much easier to remove apps, and applies to things like System Extensions, whereas kernel extensions were often left behind. While I recognize that the engineers made a lot of effort to simplify the sometimes obscure way of managing macOS, I will stay with Catalina because I do not wish to junk a sizeable part of my hardware add-ons …maybe my wish for durability!
